All Dressed Up with Someplace To Go: Cherry Capital Comic Con

When I was a little girl, I loved dressing up as someone else so much! I wished for the kind of masked ball costume parties from movies and books. Halloween wasn't enough, not at all. There were musicals and plays in school (it seems I was always cast as the old, dying, or dead people) but that ended with graduation. A few scattered Halloween parties as a grown up and that was that.

Until now.

My daughter, who is awesome, by the way, started going to these "comic conventions". These seemed to take place in faraway cities like Detroit, Chicago, and the like. Then Traverse City had their first convention (called a "con") ten years ago. What are these things? Only the best possible reason to get dressed in a costume!

Over time, I got to see pictures from her trips, getting introduced to things like Assassin's Creed, Borderlands, and similar ilk. Jessica and her friends Kayla and Gabby amazed me with their pictures. Then, my husband and I got inspired. Why don't we invite Jess's friends up here to attend Cherry Capital Comic Con 2017 (C4 2017) So, being very sneaky about it, we managed to have Marco (Kayla) come up. And, because we are kids at heart, Tom made costumes so we could go too!

And so we did, a dapper Victorian steampunk couple in tribute to characters from the Parasol Protectorate series by Gail Carriger. Lord and Lady Maccon.

Since then, time and other obligations have gotten in the way of Tom and my attending the cons, but Jessica continues with her friend Marco. The creativity and tech of the costumes is amazing and worth seeing first hand! Not to mention, the artists are absolutely amazing!

Here are some photos from Cherry Capital Comic Con (C4) from the past couple of years. And a few from Youmacon, down in Detroit. As you can see, all ages, all kinds of costumes. It is awesome!
